A Few of My Favorite Desktop Applications

Here’s a list of a few of my favorite free desktop applications. This is not meant to be a a complete list and the following is in no particular order — just a few of my favorites.

  • Firefox – free-of-charge for Windows, Mac and Linux.
  • Notepad++ – free source code editor and Notepad replacement, which supports several programming languages.
  • CCleaner – a freeware system optimization and privacy tool.
  • Google Earth – fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings and even explore galaxies in the Sky.
  • IrfanView – free image viewer for educational use (schools, universities and libraries) and for use in charity or humanitarian organizations.
  • Foxit Reader – a free PDF document viewer and printer.
  • CutePDF – a free PDF writer.
  • TrueCrypt – free open-source disk encryption software… especially useful for encrypting sensitive thumb-drive information.
  • AVG – offers a free version that offers protection against viruses and spyware.
  • Spybot – detects, removes, and prevents spyware.
  • Google Desktop – search your computer as easily as you search the web with Google.
  • Pandora – not really a desktop application, but it rocks. :)
